Memory Tree worked with The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation (CMHF) on a series of videos that feature men who have made positive changes to their health. The videos highlight Ontario men who made small lifestyle changes in order to live happier, healthier lives.
Don’t Change Much Campaign
The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation (CMHF) is a national non-profit organization. They launched the Don’t Change Much campaign to help Canadian men live healthier lives with simple tips and reliable information.
The tips are easy to follow, and focus on everyday habits that men can implement immediately, such as keeping the salt shaker off the table at mealtime to avoid the temptation, or drinking a glass of water in between each alcoholic beverage. They share advice in a weekly newsletter of
health tips and offer guidance that comes directly from other men who share common health experiences.
Ontario Men Living Healthier Lives
The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation (CMHF) wanted to produce a series of real stories about Ontario men for their Don’t Change Much campaign. The stories would follow men who have seen improvements to their health after making small changes to their everyday habits. Although the individual stories and experiences would be different for each video, we wanted the campaign to have the same overall look and feel. In the end, the videos could be viewed individually or as part of a series. We chose to take on a documentary-style approach to our cinematography for each of the videos. We kept everything as natural as possible so that the focus was on the featured men and their story of change.
Choosing the Right Stories to Tell
For this project, our challenge was selecting the right stories to tell. Through various avenues, we recruited guys who had a powerful story to share with others. We had a hard time choosing between such a wide variety of inspiring stories.
Since we’re producing a series of video stories in Ontario for CMHF, we didn’t want these stories to be in the same location or share too much in common with one another. For our latest story, we wanted to find someone living in the nation’s capital. In order to accomplish this, we researched the area, spoke with various groups and organizations, and posted on social media to recruit candidates. After reviewing the different stories from Ottawa, we landed on Allan’s story.
Don’t Change Much: Allan’s Story
Allan went from being a chain-smoker to the man he always wanted to be by making small, healthy changes to his everyday life. The proud dad looks and feels better than ever before, and he’s sharing his story to inspire other Canadian guys to do the same.
Don’t Change Much: Mathieu’s Story
Learn how smaller portions powered Canadian Mathieu Bédard to lose over 110 pounds. Bédard shares his own health lessons and lifestyle changes to inspire other Canadians to do the same.
Our Storytelling Process
We are storytellers—this is our focus throughout our entire process. When we source our featured subjects, we conduct small pre-interviews with them. This allows us to not only have an initial conversation and learn about the subject’s backstory, but it also helps us develop our visuals and decide which locations to use prior to production. Our project management team then gathers and secures the locations we need to tell these stories visually.
Pre-Production plays a vital role in every video we produce. We have detailed pre-production process for each Memory Tree project so that everyone involved from our team to the client knows exactly what to expect. Pre-production is vital to our work and it’s helped us craft incredible stories for our clients and community.
